New Zealand’s Best Value Tahr Hunt!

The Destination:

There is no doubt that New Zealand is one of the most beautiful destinations on earth.  The beauty alone will amaze you! Once you add in the very gracious and hospitable Kiwis you are sure to have the time of your life.  So many people desire to visit this scenic country but we are sure many don’t  realize that some of the best mountain hunting anywhere takes place here.  New Zealand is made up of the North Island, which is more tropical with it’s many beachside resort communities.  The South Island is more rugged.  People often compare it’s raw, majestic beauty to Alaska.  We just say you have to see it with your own eyes to believe it.  Our entire team has hunted New Zealand extensively.

The Hunt:

This hunt is mainly for what we consider one of the most beautiful species in New Zealand, in fact even the world, the tahr. Free-range tahr live in rugged and remote haunts. We hunt two separate areas.  The first option is to take a helicopter deep into the wilderness.  Here we will hunt tahr as our main species with the option to take chamois and red stag on a trophy fee basis. Ou second destination is exclusively for tahr.  This is where we go for the really big trophies.  We will be hunting in one of the most picturesque regions of teh South Island. One hours drive from Tepako and we will be into some of the best free-range private land tahr hunting in New Zealand.  We will be hunting thousands of acres of game rich property.  Often we stay in remote cabins and spike out.  Some hunters prefer to come down the mountain each day and we stay right in Tekapo.

Tahr numbers are very high in this region with trophy quality excellent.

Don’t be fooled by the amount of game!  A free-range tahr hunt is one of the toughest in New Zealand. The mountainous terrain coupled with the keen eyesight of the tahr rates this as one of the toughest hunts in the world.  Hunters should be in good physical shape and be able to shoot accurately out to 300 yards
