Experience Overview
Kamchatka’s volcanic landscape, steaming cones, lush forests and deep rivers, enhances the allure of bear hunts. Spring hunts (15 April – 15 May) occur when bears emerge from dens and feed on roots and carrion. Guides travel by snowmobile to locate fresh tracks on lingering snow and then stalk on foot for a close shot. Autumn hunts (20 August – 30 September) coincide with the salmon spawn; hunters float or walk along rivers to intercept bears gorging on pink and chum salmon. Kamchatka’s brown bear population is healthy and strictly managed; outfitters receive quotas and must accompany all hunters, and revenue from licenses supports local communities and conservation. Non‑hunters can enjoy hot springs, whale‑watching or combination hunts for snow sheep or moose.
