Experience Overview
The Central African Republic (CAR) is one of Africa’s most remote and demanding hunting destinations. Strict fair‑chase laws allow hunting only in daylight and prohibit shooting females, immature animals or from a vehicle. The country’s concessions are unfenced and game moves freely, so hunts often last 12 to 19 days to account for travel and tracking. You will hunt with a licensed professional hunter, trackers, skinners and a safari‑equipped vehicle, staying in comfortable tented camps with meals and field services provided. The chance to pursue giants like Lord Derby eland and western bongo draws adventurous hunters despite the logistics.
Diverse Ecosystems
Savanna zones: Open woodland and grassland in the north and east support giant Lord Derby eland, Lion, Leopard, Central Savanna Buffalo, Western Roan, Lelwel’s Hartebeest, Sing‑Sing Waterbuck, Greater Western Kudu, Western Kob, Bohor Reedbuck, Korrigum (Giant Topi), Oribi and Harnessed Bushbuck. Hunts here combine vehicle access and tracking on foot.
Equatorial forest: The southern rainforest demands hunting on foot, often with Pygmy trackers, for species such as Western Bongo, Dwarf Forest Buffalo, Yellow‑backed Duiker, Giant Forest Hog, Forest Sitatunga and Red River Hog. Thick vegetation and humidity make these hunts physically challenging.
Transition zones: Areas where savanna meets forest offer mixed habitats, so a hunter might see Buffalo, Eland and Bushbuck in one area and then track Bongo and Duiker in the next.
These varied environments allow hunters to customize their experience and pursue multiple species across one safari.
