Mongolia offers a rare opportunity to hunt some of Asia’s most iconic mountain game across vast, open landscapes. Link’s Wild Safaris works with a certified outfitter partner offering hunts for Gobi Argali, Hangai Argali, High Altai Argali, High Altai Ibex, Maral Stag, Roe Deer, and White Tail Gazelle.

The physical demands vary by region. Gobi and Hangai hunts generally do not require significant walking, with hunters often driving to the hunting area before walking 30 to 60 minutes to glass. Once the desired game is located, the stalk may continue on foot or by vehicle, depending on the area.

High Altai hunts are more challenging. Altitudes can reach up to 5000 meters, walking can be difficult, and horseback riding may be involved. For hunters looking for a less physically demanding Argali hunt, Gobi and Hangai may be the better fit.

Weather and timing are important considerations. July and August can be very hot, with temperatures reaching near 100 degrees, making midday hunting difficult. September is often considered the best overall time for hunting, especially for Gobi and Hangai. The Altai area is generally better later in September as the game begins moving down when temperatures cool.

Denise and I just returned from an incredible hunting trip near Khabarovsk, Russia, with Jay Link’s Wild Safaris. This was our first time hunting in Russia and with Jay’s outfit, and it certainly will not be our last. Every detail was handled smoothly, from our arrival in Moscow and transfer through passport control to the flight to Khabarovsk and the support of our full-time interpreter, Alex Ridel. The hunting area was outstanding, and the owner, guides, and camp staff made us feel welcome throughout the trip. We saw several younger bears before the right ones appeared, and our guides kept us patient until it was time. My Amur brown bear was aged at nine to ten years, and Denise’s was estimated at twelve to thirteen years. Both should rank high in the SCI Top 10. Jay and his team truly delivered a trip for the ages.

We could not have asked for a better experience with Jay Link’s Wild Safaris. The camp was solid and dry, the beds were comfortable, and the food was delicious. There was no need to bring sleeping bags or freeze-dried meals. Our guides, Andrey and Valeriy, did not speak English, but we communicated just fine through the universal language of hunters. They knew exactly when to say “shoot” and “no shoot,” and they waited patiently until the right Amur brown bears and Asian black bears appeared. Even when it rained for an entire day, we enjoyed relaxing in camp and listening to music from our interpreter, Alex. The entire trip was well organized, enjoyable, and filled with great people. Thank you, Jay, for always going the extra mile and providing service far beyond what is expected. We are already looking forward to our next adventure.
