Zambia’s vast and sparsely populated hunting areas provide a sense of true wilderness. The country hosts a wealth of dangerous and plains game across diverse ecosystems, from the lush Luangwa Valley to the miombo woodlands of the Kafue and the flooded swamps of Bangweulu. Zambia is known for high success rates on elephant, lion, leopard and buffalo, and its healthy hippo and crocodile populations are among the best in Africa.
Its valleys, woodlands and wetlands offer some of Africa’s finest dangerous‑game and endemic‑antelope hunts.
Luangwa Valley This iconic wilderness boasts superb big‑game hunting; success rates on elephant, lion, leopard and buffalo are among the highest on the continent. Hippo and crocodile populations thrive along the Luangwa River, and the valley is home to the endemic Cookson’s wildebeest.
Kafue Ecosystem Dominated by miombo woodland, the Kafue region offers high variety. It hosts some of the best common sable numbers and trophy quality, as well as superb lion and leopard.
Bangweulu Swamps This freshwater marsh is famed for the Zambezi sitatunga and endemic black lechwe. Hunters explore papyrus islands and channels in search of these unique antelope.
Kafue Flats A seasonally flooded wetland hunted solely for the endemic Kafue lechwe; this species’ population thrives here.
Zambia’s hunting season generally runs from May through November when the bush is dry and animals congregate near water.
