Liberia is a new frontier for African forest hunting. In 2023 a 57 000‑hectare concession opened to safari hunters, offering the chance to pursue rare West‑African species. The area is a remote jungle with no roads, and hunts require long walks through humid rainforest; hunters often cover 5 km per day. Rainy season lasts from June through November, making December–May the best time to visit.

Forest Concession This privately controlled area holds quotas for zebra duiker, water chevrotain, western bongo, Ogilby’s duiker, black duiker, bay duiker, dwarf forest buffalo, giant forest hog, red river hog, civet, genet and golden cat. Hunts involve tracking barefoot guides through dense jungle; success depends on stamina and patience.
Terrain & Logistics There are no vehicles or roads within the concession. Camps are basic and supplies are brought in on foot. The climate is extremely humid and insects are plentiful. Hunts must be scheduled around the June–November rainy season.
Coastal & Secondary Forest Outside the concession, game populations are low due to human activity; hunting is not recommended. Liberia’s tourism infrastructure is minimal, making travel logistics complicated.
